2024 SPRING TRACK & FIELD TRYOUT INFORMATION

CONFLICTS: If you're trying out for another Woodson spring sport or still in season with your Woodson winter team, it's your responsibility to contact Coach Zuber BEFORE tryouts. Conflicts does not include missing tryouts for a club sport, Woodson academic team or your family being on vacation. If you can't commit to 5 days a week practice, please don't try out.
Everyone MUST complete ALL of the following:
- VHSL Physical Form: Dated after May 1, 2023. Place in the Athletic Trainers mailbox (outside Activities Office) or hand deliver to Athletic Trainer's room C-158
- Registration/Concussion Education: Register at WTW Sports
TRYOUT FORMAT: All athletes must try at least three events (throwers are exempt). Athletes will be evaluated based on their results. Great effort and attitude will also be taken into account. Team selection will be announced at a mandatory meeting on Saturday, February 24th at 9:00am in Cafeteria A.
- Sprinters need to tryout in 100m, 200m and 400m
- Distance need to tryout in 400m 800m and 1600m
- Jumpers need to tryout in jumps, 100m and 200m
- Throwers need to tryout in shot put and discus
- If you don’t know what event(s) you are good at, you need to try as many as possible.

Friday, February 23rd: 3:30pm - track
- 800 meter run

- 55 meter hurdles
Saturday, February 24th: 9:00am - Cafeteria A
MISSION:
Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive and fun environment for all athletes, and for everyone to have a positive and meaningful experience while participating in a very competitive sport.
CODE OF CONDUCT:
Athletes will abide by all school and county rules, regulations and policies, exhibit good sportsmanship and use language that is socially acceptable. Athletes will cooperate with teammates, coaches and officials and not leave practice without a coach’s permission. Hazing of any nature is not tolerated and will result in a dismissal from the team.

COSTS: New athletes must purchase a uniform if they have never participated in WTW cross country, indoor, or outdoor track & field. We also encourage you to purchase spirit wear. Make sure you have running specific shoes as lower body injuries are often caused by wearing the wrong type of shoes.
EXPECTATIONS: This is a VARSITY SPORT and attendance at practices and meets are MANDATORY. We understand you are busy with other activities and request that you carefully consider your time commitments before trying out for track and field. It’s the responsibility of the student-athlete to inform Coach Zuber of any conflicts. All conflicts need to be addressed at the beginning of the season.
SCHEDULE: The official schedule is posted at www.woodsonsports.com. Please check the site and make sure you are able to attend the meets that are scheduled for your level.
PRACTICE: Monday-Friday, 3:20pm till 6:00pm, sometimes practice ends earlier and some days later. Some groups have Saturday practice. All athletes are required to attend practice every day. We do have practice when it is cold or raining. No practice if FCPS is canceled.
EVENTS: These events are offered in a regular indoor track & field meet: Running Events: 4x800m Relay, 100/110m Hurdles, 100m Dash, 1600m Run, 4x100m Relay, 400m Dash, 300m Hurdles, 800m Run, 200m Dash, 3200m Run and 4x400m Relay. Field Events: Long jump, Triple jump, High jump, Pole vault, Shot Put and Discus.
