PRACTICE
Practices start immediately after tryouts and run from August to late-October/mid-November.
Practice occurs every day after school. There are no practices on match days. Practice times will change for inclement weather, and/or school events as designated by the DSA office. On days of inclement weather or school events, the DSA office will contact coaches, who will notify the team captains to tell the players for their respective teams. Varsity is usually the only team that will practice during inclement weather.

Tryouts are very competitive and it is not an easy experience for coaches, players, or parents. It is very stressful and demanding. We ask that if your child does not make a team - please be supportive and aware that there are many opportunities to participate in other sports, clubs, and organizations at Woodson.
All communication is done by email or through the Team Captains once teams are selected. Important announcements will also go out over the woodsonsports.com website. The schedule is also available at this site along with the practice schedule for the year. Any changes to the standard schedule will be sent by email or in handouts to players – we ask that you remain flexible, as there will be changes.
Any questions please contact the head coach, Lori Prendergast at

3. Concussion Education Training
- This training is part of the Activity Registration submission you complete online.

4. Health Insurance
- Health Insurance is mandatory in order to participate in any sport.
- If you don’t have coverage, it can be purchased through the school. See the DSA office or the Athletic Trainer for more information regarding health insurance.
5. Woodson Sports Physical Night
- The Woodson Athletic Training Program’s Sports Physical Night event is held each year at Woodson High School.
- As always, the goal of Sports Physical Night is to provide a complete pre-participation examination screening that will leave student athletes with a valid VHSL physical for the entirety of the 2025-26 School Year.
- Hosting this event is our Athletic Training Program’s ONLY fundraiser for the year as they DO NOT receive any funding from the county. ALL proceeds go towards helping the program purchase supplies.
- Without your support they would not be able to provide the services they do for our student-athletes.
